This debut feature-length documentary from Portland-based filmmaker Megan Ashley Alan offers a stirring look at the city's thriving strip club community. I was tasked with animating a few interstitial cards and informational sequences using original artwork provided by local illustrator Shanley Narens. Trained as a tattoo artist for many years, Shanley was an inspired choice to craft the unifying visual language for a film dedicated to celebrating the human figure.
I strived to take the source material to heart in translating it into motion, preserving the pieces' careful linework while enhancing them here and there with stream-of-consciousness cel-animated moments.
